What academic support is available for CHS students?
CHS and the Educational Options Department are committed to helping every student reach his/her potential. To assist students in their quest for academic success and to pass the California High School Exit Exam (CAHSEE), Ceres High has established the Student Support Center with a full-time staff (Student Support Coordinator and Assistant) to coordinate the various academic programs. Students are strongly encouraged to participate in one or more of the programs that are available during and after school.
What program or services are available to Ceres High School students?
- The Student Tutoring Center is located on campus in room 409 and is open Monday through Thursday from 3:00 until 4:00. Students may "drop-in" any day they wish and they have access to tutors to assist them with homework in a quiet atmosphere.
- CAHSEE Review classes are offered each semester to prepare students to pass the exam which is given several times during the school year.
- Reading classes are offered as one of the student's classes during the school day. Students develop strong decoding and comprehension skills through the SRA Corrective Reading program. An after school review class is available to all students in the Corrective Reading classes.
- Academic Extended Day classes are available to students who may not have all of the credits necessary to meet the Ceres High School graduation requirements. Courses are offered for the semester either Monday/Tuesday nights or Wednesday/Thursday nights from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Students who successfully complete a course can earn five credits toward the graduation requirement.
- The CHS Summer School program is for students currently enrolled in grades 9 through 12 (incoming 8th graders may also register, but must graduate from junior high school to participate in the program). Courses are offered in two sessions, each session lasting 12 days, running 5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The program begins the week following the end of the regular school year. Registration starts in the spring on a first come, first served basis with priority given to CUSD students in need of credits for graduation. Students who successfully complete the program can earn up to ten credits toward graduation.
