After School Program for Elementary Schools
The After School Program for elementary sites is comprised of After School Education and Safety (ASES) and Academic Intervention Program (AIP). These programs are available Monday through Friday, including all minimum days, immediately after school until 6:00 pm.
ASES provides recreation and enrichment activities Monday-Friday on regular school days with few exceptions from the time school is dismissed until 6:00 p.m.
AIP provides the concentrated academic intervention instruction Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays. Each Monday and Friday homework assistance is also provided.
Who can participate?
All students from grades 1st through 6th in elementary school are eligible to attend the Elementary After School Program. Students are provided a snack, immediately followed by the academic session for 1 ½ hours. During this time, students that do not need intervention support are given time to work on homework assignments and receive academic enrichment activities aligned to the regular school day. Students enrolled in intervention will receive extra support in reading and math, based on the AIP program (Academic Intervention Program) that was provided in previous years.
Registration information
Registration forms are available for parents to complete at every elementary school site and in the Educational Options Department located at the District Office.
Can my child leave early?
Yes, in accordance with our Early Release Policy, a parent or guardian may pick up their child from the program before the 6:00 PM ending time as long as they sign the early release log verifying they are picking up their child and annotate the time.

After School Program for Junior High Schools
The After School Program for junior high schools is comprised of After School Education and Safety (ASES) and Academic Intervention Program (AIP), as well as other school sports teams and student clubs. These programs are available Monday through Friday, including all minimum days, immediately after school until 6:00 pm.
ASES provides recreation and enrichment activities Monday-Friday on regular school days with few exceptions from the time school is dismissed until 6:00 p.m.
AIP provides the concentrated academic intervention instruction Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.
How does the Academic Intervention Program work at the Junior High Schools?
The AIP program offers classes after school in Algebra, Pre-Algebra, 7th grade language arts and 8th grade language arts. The classes last for 1 ½ hours after school. The first half-hour is time students spend working on their homework and to get assistance from the teacher. The final hour is class instruction.
The AIP classes are designed for two purposes: the first purpose is for credit recovery. A student may earn 2.5 credits each quarter for regularly attending an after school class and earning a passing grade. The credits are used towards graduation. The second purpose of the AIP classes is to give students who are in need of extra assistance in the current Pre-algebra, algebra, or language arts class.
Homework Club
The homework club is available from Tuesday through Thursday (2:30 – 3:30). Students are given a quiet place to work with the support of a classroom teacher.
Summer School
Summer school is scheduled at both Mae Hensley and Blaker-Kinser Junior High Schools. It is a 4 week program that provides a student the opportunity to earn 5 credits towards promotion to the next grade level.
Academic Extended Day Program for High Schools
The Educational Options Department and CUSD’s high schools are committed to helping every student reach his or her potential. The Academic Extended Day program assists students in their quest for academic success and allows them to complete credits required for graduation.
What programs are available to Ceres, Central Valley, and Argus High School students?
- Academic Extended Day classes are available to students who may not have all of the credits necessary to meet CUSD’s high school graduation requirements. Courses are offered for the semester either Monday/Tuesday nights or Wednesday/Thursday nights from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Students who successfully complete a course can earn five credits toward the graduation requirement.
- The CHS Summer School program is for district students currently enrolled in grades 9 through 12 (incoming 8th graders may also register, but must graduate from junior high school to participate in the program). Courses are offered in two sessions, each session lasting 12 days, running 5 hours per day, Monday through Friday. The program begins the week following the end of the regular school year. Registration starts in the spring on a first come, first served basis with priority given to CUSD students in need of credits for graduation. Students who successfully complete the program can earn up to ten credits toward graduation.

If you would like more information about any of these programs, please contact the Counseling Office at Ceres High School, Central Valley High School, or Argus High School. The student’s counselor will advise and enroll the student in the appropriate classes.
